Sodium Hyaluronate injection, also termed as hyaluronic acid injection, is a medical treatment used for various joint conditions, including osteoarthritis. Hyaluronic acid is a lubricant and shock absorber and is found naturally in the synovial fluid that helps lubricate and cushion the joints.
Sodium hyaluronate injections play a significant role in modulating the interactions between adjacent tissues. This injection work by increasing the viscosity and lubrication of the synovial fluid in the joint, reducing friction, and improving joint movement. Additionally, it may also have anti-inflammatory effects.
This medicine is given as a shot directly (intra articular) into the knee joint to function as shock absorber and a lubricant for the joint.
Strict aseptic administration of injection must be followed.
Injections may be given once a week for three to five weeks or a single injection. Repeat courses can be performed after six months.
Common side effects include pain or swelling at the injection site, warmth, or redness in the joint, difficult to move, and temporary worsening of symptoms.
Serious side effects may be uncommon but can include infections or allergic reactions. Any long-term effects or any concerns or potential risks with your healthcare provider.

Sodium Hyaluronate Injection is not advised in children, pregnant women, or breastfeeding mothers.
People those who are allergic to hyaluronic acid, and those having circulatory problems in legs must avoid using it.
Sodium Hyaluronate is also not advisable for people with cancer or a history of cancer.
Try not to strain your knee joint for two days after receiving this medication. Avoid activities strenuous activities like heavy lifting, or standing for long time, playing games, etc.
